Seraphim Newsletter
Seraphim is the spiritual publication of St. Peter's Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, Philadelphia. It is managed by the St. Peter's Youth Club (SPYC). It was created to encourage and understand our spiritual upbringing. It is named after the Seraphs, the angelic choir in heaven. Seraphs are mentioned many times in Christian liturgy because of their closeness with God. They are six-winged angels who are the highest-ranking angels in heaven. It is said that they continually praise God by singing "Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of Hosts, the whole earth is full of His Glory" (Isaiah 6:3). This chanting is referred to as the Trisagion. It is the name given to the prayer “Holy art thou, O God, Holy art thou, Almighty, Holy art thou immortal, Thou who was crucified for us, have mercy on us”. It is the opening prayer of the Kauma, the prayer that begins every worship. The Seraphim appears in the Bible in Isaiah’s vision “... I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and His train filled the sanctuary. Above Him stood the Seraphim; each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew" (Isaiah 6:1-3). In naming this publication Seraphim, we want to give every individual the opportunity to express their thoughts and feelings about God and their faith, through the submission of their creative works to spycpublication@gmail.com. We hope this publication is informative as well as a venue to share your belief.
